Class code: QCAWKCF
Class Name:  ILCS Kindergarten

Flashcards: Make flashcards for our new sight words (COME, AT, SAID), letter teams (CE and CI), and word family (IN - bin, fin, win). Study these flashcards (and those from previous weeks) every day. Visit our Sight Words tab for more flashcard ideas.

Phonemic Awareness:  Phonemic awareness is understanding sounds in words, rhyming, syllables, etc.  Strong phonemic awareness is important to early reading skills.  A great way to practice phonemic awareness is to play word/sound games with your child. Please see the Phonemic Awareness tab for ideas and tips on working with your child on these skills.  You can also find resources for many phonemic awareness activities on gooru.

Reading: Read, read, read! Read the paper books that have come home, read books from your book box, read on RAZ-Kids, work on the Smarty Ants reading program, read on We Give Books, and read to your child! See the links on the Fun Learning Links Tab.  You can download the poems and fluency passage of the week on gooru for your student to keep in their book box at home for additional familiar reading material.

Math: Practice counting 1-30 or higher, count on starting at a number other than one, identify numbers out of order, study number flashcards, number writing practice, sort items by color and size, practice identifying 2D and 3D shapes, draw shapes, find 3D shapes we use in our everyday life.  start sorting and counting coins at home. VISIT OUR COMMON CORE STANDARDS TAB TO SEE WHAT OTHER MATH STANDARDS YOU CAN WORK ON WITH YOUR CHILD!   You will find several 2D and 3D shape resources on gooru.  You can find all of these math skills and many more on IXL Math.  See the link on the Fun Learning Links Tab at the top of this page.

Writing: Write every day in your at-home journal. Practice writing your name with an uppercase only at the beginning. Practice writing ABC's uppercase and lowercase (Aa, Bb, Cc). Also practice writing your sight words of the week and sight word dictation sentences for our spelling test on Friday.

Sharing:  Special Sharing project this week!  We will be creating a 3D Museum in our class from the items your child brings in to share.  Please help your child locate items around your house that you are willing to part with for a week or 2 that are the 3D shapes we are learning - cube, cylinder, sphere, cone, pyramid, rectangular prism.  Try to locate one item for each of the above listed shapes.  Smaller sized items are best as we don’t want the 3D Museum to overtake our classroom!  Thanks and have fun exploring these shapes at home with your child.  Your child’s sharing does not need to include a written paper this week however your child will need to share his/her 3D shapes and identify the name of each shape - so practice at home!  Here is a fun video to get you started on your 3D shape hunt!  The video contains each of the shapes we are learning about except rectangular prisms.  Please refer to the pictures below the video for rectangular prism examples.  Remember to turn sharing in any day this week EXCEPT Friday!
