Weekly News: May 2

Family Fun Night Luau - Friday, May 20th :)

Keep working on those community service projects! Projects and presentations due the week of May 23rd.

Last week we had our first Sight Word Flash Card Competition.  Students competed against one another reading all of our sight words to date.  We had so many students that were able to read ALL of the words the competition progressed to spelling the sight words.  The three top winners in our class competed against the three top winners in Mrs. Stanley’s class.  Congratulations to our top three winners:  Troy, Mallory, and Bevan!!! Keep practicing reading and spelling all of our sight words.  We will have a new competition each Friday! How fun :)

What Are We Learning This Week??:

New Words: MOTHER, FATHER, SISTER, BROTHER, FAMILY.

New Leadership Theme: DISCRETION.

In math we will continue to practice addition, subtraction, measurement, and all of our math concepts. Students will only have ONE EXCEL MATH from now on. We are taking the extra time to work on various math centers. CONGRATULATIONS TO TROY FOR BEING THE FIRST KINDERGARTEN TO WRITE ALL THE WAY TO 1,000!!! In reading we will continue to talk about how good readers ask questions and make inferences before, during and after they read.  In writing we will write about discretion.  We will also practice writing stories.  We are learning that not all of our writing has to be “real”.  We will practice writing make believe stories (fiction).  Our focus is on good mechanics; complete sentences, proper punctuation and capitalization.  Thank you for reinforcing these concepts with your child in their writing homework.
