Weekly News: May 7 - May 11

We will be going on a field trip THIS Wednesday, May 9 to the Children’s Museum of the Desert. This is sure to be an exciting “hands on” field trip.  We will be leaving school at 8:15 and returning at approximately 1:30. Mark your calendars and adjust schedules for the late pick up on this day and please note that your child will be missing any electives they may have on this day.  PLEASE DO NOT BRING FOLDERS ON THIS DAY. We will be eating our “sack” lunches at the museum following the tour. Please pack your child a lunch in a paper bag.  No lunch boxes please. Permission slips were sent home last Monday.  Please return ASAP. Thank you to the chaperones that volunteered to go with us. Chaperones will be riding on the bus with our classes. Please remember that school policy states NO SIBLINGS. Thanks! We are looking forward to a wonderful field trip!

Our caterpillars are now in their chrysalis. We are excited to watch them come out as butterflies!

Friday, we will be having a special Mother's Day Centers in our classroom. We invite all mommies to come to class from 10:30-11:30 to share in our Mother's Day Centers! There will be special activities, games, etc. Mommies - we will be painting so don't dress too fancy! Hope you are able to make it! (daycare is provided at our campus for campus for younger siblings!)

Remember to study for 100% CLUB. Those friends who know 100% of sight words, letter teams, sounds and numbers will receive a special prize!!!

What Are We Learning This Week??:

Sight Words: HIS, HER, HAD, GET, THESE.

Letter Team: No letter teams this week. Please review ALL letter teams learned so far.

Reading: We will continue reading books about butterflies and spring, we will read books about mothers and we will read our special Mother's Day poems.

Writing:
We are adding details to our stories. Some of us are even writing eight sentences now for Step Up to Writing, adding details after every "main idea" sentence.

Math: Last week, we started discussing number bonds, as we learned all the ways to make 5 (5 and 0, 4 and 1, 3 and 2). Students took an extra timed test on Friday to practice number bonds. Our goal is to have students memorize number bonds and missing addends. If a child sees "3+_=5", we want an automatic response of "2". This week we will focus on number bonds of 6. Please practice this at home with your child.  Practice your math facts everyday for our Tuesday and Friday Timed Tests!

Leadership: Our new leadership theme for the rest of the year will be forgiveness.
