Weekly News: May 14 - 18

Thank you so much for all the teacher appreciation gifts, letters, school supplies, and flowers.  I truly feel appreciated each and every day when you send your children to me.  I have enjoyed spending this past school year with your children.  Thank you for all of your support this year.  It has been very much appreciated!

We enjoyed honoring our very special mothers on Friday at our Mother’s Day Celebration.  Thank you for joining us for this very special day.  I hope all of your wonderful mothers enjoyed your very special day!  Our butterflies all came out of their chrysalises on Friday during our Mother’s Day Celebration.  We will be letting the butterflies go free on Monday so they can spread their wings and take on the world.

Save the Date!!!  We will be honoring all of our dads with DONUTS WITH DADS ON JUNE 8 AT 8:15.  Dads please plan on joining us on this date for a quick donut with your child and a presentation of a special gift from your child.

Save the Date!!!! Our end of the year FIELD DAY will be Tuesday, June 12th. We are asking for as much parent involvement as we can to make this a special time for your kindergartners. Please take advantage of this early notice and make arrangements for your little ones if you are able to join us and help support our field day activities.  SIBLINGS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THIS DAY.  Thank you so much for your support!

SAVE THE DATE!!!  We will also have a last day of school KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOM CELEBRATION on Wednesday, June 13th.  Please mark your calendar and plan on joining us at the end of the day.

What Are We Learning This Week??:

Sight Words: FALL, WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER, WEATHER.

Letter Teams: EA (we are learning that EA can make THREE sounds - long E like in SEASON, short E like in WEATHER, and long A like in BREAK). This is our last kindergarten letter team we are learning!

Reading: We will read books about weather and our four seasons. We will read our poems, "Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall" and "Weather".

Writing:
We are adding details to our stories. Some of us are even writing eight sentences now for Step Up to Writing, adding details after every "main idea" sentence.

Math:
We have been working hard on number bonds. We are now taking number bonds timed tests every Tuesday and Friday too. Our goal is to have students memorize number bonds and missing addends. If a child sees "3+_=5", we want an automatic response of "2". This week we will focus on number bonds of 7. Please practice this at home with your child.  Practice your math facts everyday for our Tuesday and Friday Timed Tests!

Leadership: Our new leadership theme for the rest of the year will be forgiveness.
