Weekly News: February 24-28

News:

We've been having a lot of fun learning all about our presidents! This week, we will learn about Abraham Lincoln.

Parent conferences are coming up! I will be conferencing before and after school the first two weeks in March, right before our Spring break. Please stop by the classroom (or you can email me at Jenn.christine@yahoo.com) so we can choose a date and time for you. I will be assigning a date and time to anyone who is not signed up by Friday. Thank you and I look forward to meeting with each of you again to discuss your child's growth in the classroom!

Next week we are celebrating Read Across America Week and celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday! As part of our Read Across America celebration, we are welcoming guest readers into our classroom throughout the week! If you or someone you know (grandma, grandpa, neighbor, friend, doctor, librarian, etc!) would like to come and read your favorite story to our kindergarten class, here will be a sign-up clipboard in the classroom!

We will also be celebrating Dr. Seuss next week by dressing up! It's going to be a fun-filled week with a silly something to wear each day! Start planning your silly outfits now!

Monday:
Silly Sock Day {come to school in your silliest socks!}
Tuesday:
Stripes and/or Polka-dots Day
Wednesday:
Wacky Hat Wednesday {I can't wait to see all of those wacky hats!}
Thursday:
Rhyme Time Day {dress in rhyme - some examples are: a green queen, a fish with a dish, a cook with a book, etc. Have fun!}
Friday:
Relax and Read Day {come to school in your PJ's and bring your favorite stuffed animal friend and book to share!}

Continue to work on your community service projects. These will be due at the end of May. Please see me if you have any questions. OUR TWO WEEK SPRING BREAK COMING UP IS THE PERFECT TIME TO WORK ON THESE PROJECTS!!

Upcoming Events:  March 4th-8th: Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss Celebration
March 4th-13th: 2nd Trimester Parent Conferences
Friday, March 14th: ST. PATRICK'S WEAR GREEN CELEBRATION
March 17th-28th: SPRING BREAK!!!

What Are We Learning This Week?:

Sight Words: THERE, WHERE, THEY, THEN, THEM.

Letter Team:
EY (makes two sounds - EE like in KEY, and AY like in THEY)

Reading:
We will continue reading books about our presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Writing:
We will practice writing letters, cards, lists, and step up to writing stories.

Math: We will continue to work on our Daily Math Practice sheets every morning. I am noticing that we are getting better and better at these practice sheets, with more completed and more correct answers each time. Please continue to review these daily, reinforcing missed skills at home. You should have noticed a fluency through 5 timed test that came home last week. We have started taking these timed tests every Wednesday. Students are working hard on addition and subtraction facts through five.

Leadership:
Our leadership trait this month is FLEXIBILITY. Our kindergarten definition for FLEXIBILITY is: to go with the flow and be willing to change or compromise without complaining.
