Weekly News: May 18-22

News:

Can you believe that we only have three more full weeks left of kindergarten?! This year has flown by! As I think back to our very first few weeks of school together, I am amazed and so proud of how each and every student has grown and at how we have grown as a class. I am looking forward to having a fun-filled last few weeks together.

NO SCHOOL next Monday, May 25th due to the Memorial Day Holiday. Enjoy the time off with your families.

Your community service projects came home on Friday. They were all fantastic! I have enjoyed watching your presentations on how you have been serving your community these past few months. It makes me so happy to see a class full of leaders!

Our butterflies are still in their chrysalises. We are getting very anxious to see them come out!

End of the Year Events:
The end of the year is coming quick and I wanted to let you know {IN ADVANCE!} what we have planned! Make sure to SAVE THE DATES!

Monday, June 8th: BSC Field Day. We are having a school FIELD DAY with all of kindergarten, first grade, and TK friends! We will rotate through fun centers outside in the morning from 8:30-10:00. We would love parent helpers on this day! If you are able to help out, please see our awesome room-mom. Thank you so much for your support!

Tuesday, June 9th: Last Day of Kindergarten Celebration. We will have a very special last day of school KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOM CELEBRATION on this day. We invite you to join us at 11:00 as we sing a special song, read our last book together as a class, look through our memory books, and watch our "Kindergarten Movie". We will also be having our big end of the school year assembly at 8:10 on this morning, so mark your calendars for a full day of events!!

What Are We Learning This Week?:
Sight Words: VERY, EVERY, ABOVE, BELOW, ALWAYS -  these are our LAST SIGHT WORDS OF THE YEAR!!! Friday will be our LAST dictation test and LAST math test :)

Letter Team: There are NO new letter teams! Remember to practice ALL letter teams so that you are well-prepared for first grade.

Reading:
We will continue reading and learning all about plants. We are learning the different parts of plants and also what plants need to survive.

Writing: The students have been doing an excellent job with 8 sentences paragraphs, including explanations! I am so proud. This week, we will continue writing about plants. We will also begin working on a special end of the year writing project.

Math: We are finishing up our unit on addition and subtraction, continuing to work on ways to make 10 and fluency through five, and sharpening our mental math skills.

Leadership: Our leadership theme for the rest of the year will be LOYALTY.
