Weekly News: May 4-8

News:

We have had so much fun watching our caterpillars get bigger and bigger and fatter and fatter as we read about their metamorphosis. We think all of them will be in a chrysalis very soon!

We are excited for our very special Mother's Day centers on Friday. We will begin RIGHT AT 11:00 so please plan on arriving by then. The students have some special songs prepared and we have a special story we will be reading together as a class. There will be activities, games, and even a snack! You will be painting with your children, so don't wear anything too fancy! Hope you are able to make it! Please remember to arrange childcare for your little ones so that this can be a very special time between you and your kindergartner :)

We had a great time on our field trip to the Children's Museum. Thank you for all the donations and a big thank you to our chaperones. Check out our pictures on the class Facebook page!

Your community service presentations have been wonderful so far! I am so proud to have a classroom full of little leaders helping the community. If you have not turned in or presented your project yet, you may bring it in any time in the next two weeks. The last day to turn in your projects will be Friday, May 15th. I can't wait to see more!

Upcoming Events:
Friday, May 8th: Mother’s Day Celebration
Monday, May 11 - Friday, May 15:  Community Service Projects Due
Monday, May 25th - No School

We are running out of glue sticks!!  If you are at the store and are able to pick some up to donate to our class we thank you in advance!!

What Are We Learning This Week:
Sight Words: AUNT, UNCLE, GRANDMA, GRANDPA, COUSIN.

Letter Team: There are NO new letter teams! For the rest of the year, we will be reviewing all letter teams that we have learned this year. The expectation is that students recognize the letter team within our three second rule, then be able to apply that letter team when decoding an unknown word.

Reading:

We will continue to read books about caterpillars, butterflies, Mother's Day, and spring.

Writing: Students may choose if they would like to write a step up to writing or fictional stories about butterflies.

Math: We are working on so many fun math games that are helping us with our addition, subtraction, and decomposing.

Leadership:  Our leadership theme for the rest of the year will be LOYALTY.
