Weekly News: March 25-29

We had so much fun celebrating St. Patrick's Day and sharing our leprechaun traps.

Electives and tutoring will begin again THIS WEEK.

We have been invited to an Easter Egg Hunt at Braswell's on Thursday, April 5th at 10:30. Keep an eye out for the permission slip in your folder. If you would like to accompany our class for this walking field trip, please let me know!

Last week, we began "Fun Friday". This is an extra recess/free-time outside for students who finished ALL of their weekly classwork. Students have EVERY DAY during math time AND center time to work on classwork and those who finish will be rewarded with Fun Friday. Students that do not finish their work will stay in the classroom. Fun Friday is great motivation for students to make better use of their time in the classroom - this is ALSO preparing them for independent working in the first grade!

If you are at the store and happen to think of us: we are in need of gluesticks, thick black expo markers, index cards, heavy-duty sheet protectors, and computer ink (Canon 210/211XL and HP 74/75XL). We appreciate it!

Keep working on those community service projects! Presentations will be due the last week of April (23rd-27th).

What Are We Learning This Week??:

Sight Words: OVER, UNDER, LEFT, RIGHT, PUT.

Letter Team: DGE (sounding like "j" like in BADGE, LEDGE, and FRIDGE).

Reading: We will read books about spring and our poems of the week, "Springtime" and "Spring Song".

Writing:  We will have fun writing fictional spring stories and step up to writing stories about things that we are learning about spring.

Math: This week, we will focus on place value and making groups of tens. We will also read and learn how to answer addition and subtraction sentences and focus on drawing shapes. Drawing shapes can be difficult for many students. You can help at home by asking your child to practice drawing circles, triangles, squares, and rectangles. Please continue to work on circled problems that students are missing and reinforcing these concepts at home. Practice your math facts everyday for our  Tuesday and Friday Timed Tests!

Leadership: SERVICE.
