Weekly News: March 19-23

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Spring break and enjoyed the time off with your families!

Parent conferences will continue this week, before and after school. If you forgot your time, check back later, as I will be posting a schedule! I look forward to meeting with you!

Since we missed St. Patrick's Day, we will be celebrating this week by lots of fun centers and games, sharing our leprechaun traps, and reading and writing about catching leprechauns! We will also have a WEAR GREEN day on Friday! :)

Electives and tutoring will begin again NEXT WEEK.

This week, we will be starting "Fun Friday". This is an extra recess/free-time outside for students who finished ALL of their weekly classwork. Students have EVERY DAY during math time AND center time to work on classwork and those who finish will be rewarded with Fun Friday. Students that do not finish their work will stay in the classroom. Fun Friday is great motivation for students to make better use of their time in the classroom - this is ALSO preparing them for independent working in the first grade!

If you are at the store and happen to think of us: we are in need of gluesticks, thick black expo markers, index cards, heavy-duty sheet protectors, and computer ink (Canon 210/211XL and HP 74/75XL). We appreciate it!

Keep working on those community service projects! More information on projects and presentations will be coming soon!

What Are We Learning This Week??:

Sight Words: FIRST, SECOND, THIRD, NEXT, LAST.

Letter Team: TCH (sounding like "ch" like in BATCH, FETCH, and ITCH).

Reading: We will read books about St. Patrick's Day, Ireland, and leprechauns.

Writing:  We will write a Step Up to Writing about how to catch a leprechuan and practice writing letters.

Math: This week, we will focus on probability words (certain, likely, unlikely, impossible) and when they are appropriate. We will continue differentiating between addition and subtraction and we will be learning how to use a number line to help us! Please continue to work on circled problems that students are missing and reinforcing these concepts at home. Practice your math facts everyday for our  Tuesday and Friday Timed Tests!
