Weekly News: February 12-16

I hope you enjoyed a relaxing three-day weekend with your families. We have another three day weekend coming up next week, as there is no school on Monday, February 19th.

We had so much fun at our field trip to the Children's Museum. Thank you to all the parents that chaperoned and thank you for all of your donations to Dollar A Day to make this field trip possible for us. Make sure to check out our pictures on ParentSquare.

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day with fun centers on Wednesday. Don't forget to bring your valentines for the class! Students will be passing out valentines to their friends during our centers.

We are so happy for our friends in Mrs. Stanley's class for winning the letter team challenge! Our sight word challenge has officially begun and IT IS ON! Please check your child's sight word challenge sheet in their book bag and work with them on sight words every night. Our challenge will last for the next two weeks. We want to BEAT Mrs. Stanley's class this time!!!

What Are We Learning This Week?:

Sight Words: ANY, MANY, BUT, WERE, PEOPLE.

Letter Team:  We will revisit and focus on all of our "2 Vowels Go Walking" this week. The rule is "when two vowels go a-walking, the first one does the talking, by saying it's name!" You can help your child with this by making flashcards for AI, EA, OA, OE, and UI. We will work on decoding words with this rule - like RAIN, LEAF, GOAT, TOE, and FRUIT.

Reading:

For the next two weeks, we will read books about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Writing:  We will continue practicing writing a Step Up to Writing paragraph with a topic sentence, three things about that topic, and a conclusion sentence. All students have specific writing goals that they are working on each day.

Math:
This week, we will continue to learn about place value (tens and ones) and I will begin my end of the trimester assessments. Make sure to keep practicing all math skills with your child, as they will be assessed on their counting, shapes, measurement, place value, addition and subtraction, composing and decomposing.

Leadership: We will continue to ROAR and discuss what it means to have a growth mindset!
