Homework: April 18 - 22

April 18 - 23
New Homework Expectations:  We will have new homework expectations for the rest of the year. We will not only be recording students that have turned in their "Turn-In Homework", but we will be checking Smarty Ants and DreamBox to make sure students are spending 10-15 minutes a day on each program. We will also be keeping track of students that bring book bags to school every day. Thank you for your continued support at home!
Check out Parent Square where you can find additional homework activities to download.

Flashcards:  Don't forget to make new flashcards for each sight word and letter team. New words for this week are: HELP, START, WORLD, EARTH, CHILDREN and the new letter team is: EAR -  (another ER sound like in EARTH and EARLY).

Phonemic Awareness:  Please work with your child on the following Phonemic Awareness skills - rhyming, blending, segmenting, syllables, and beginning/middle/ending sounds. Please see our Phonemic Awareness tab for ideas and tips. Please check your child's report card from second trimester and see the Foundational Skills areas where they may still need support.

Reading: Play Smarty Ants for 10-15 minutes each night. In addition to Smarty Ants, we ask that you read your Book Bag every night. This includes: sight words and letter team RAN Boards, fluency passage, any paper books, and library book.
You can also access Raz-kids Reading. This is a web sight reading program where your child can access digital books online. The books can be read and/or listened to and then your child can take a quiz to check for understanding. You will find the links to Smarty Ants and raz-kids below.

You can also download the Smarty Ants and raz-kids apps to your tablet for free!

Writing:  Practice writing EVERY day.  You can practice writing a 5 to 8 sentence Step up to Writing paragraph in your at-home journal.
We have been using the transitional words first, next, and last.  Some students are now adding explanation sentences to their details, making an eight sentence paragraph. For example:  My spring break was so much fun.  First, I went to Disneyland.  I took a picture with Mickey Mouse.  Next, I went horseback riding.  I was a little scared but still enjoyed it.  Last, I visited by grandma.  I baked delicious chocolate chip cookies with her.  My spring break was a busy and fun time.

Math: Play DreamBox for 10-15 minutes each night.
Work on your math goals for third trimester.  Practice addition and subtraction facts, numbers bonds to ten, ways to make 5 and 10, place vale, and math story problems.

Our school code is X2we/inlandlcs
You can download the DreamBox app for your tablet

Turn-In Homework: We have another special Sharing Homework this week. Since we are learning about Earth Day and recycling, please help your child create something with reused materials and write about it. Some examples can include: an old can reused as a pencil cup, a milk carton reused as a plant holder, a soda bottle reused as a bird feeder, cereal boxes reused as ... use your imagination! Here is a great link to check out: http://too-much-time.com/2013/04/36-recycling-upcycling-and-reuse-ideas-for-earth-day.html

Note: If you visit the following link (Sharing Paper), you'll find a great printable writing page with a spot for writing and for a picture! Feel free to print off a bunch of these pages to use for turn in writing homework each week :) The Sharing Paper link can also be found on the Fun Learning Links tab at the top of the page.
