Weekly News: February 9-12

I hope you enjoyed a relaxing three-day weekend with your families. We have another three-day weekend coming up this week, as there is no school on Monday, February 15th.

We had so much fun on our field trip to the Lewis Playhouse! Thank you for making this possible by donating into our Dollar a Day fund. We are looking forward to one more kindergarten field trip to the Children's Museum of the Desert in April.

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day together on Friday. Thank you so much for all of the Capri Sun boxes {and thank you to the parents who wrapped them!} These will be used as our Valentine's Mailboxes. If your child would like to make valentines for the class, a list of boys and girls names were sent home last week. This is great writing practice for your child. Please check the sign-up on ParentSquare if you would like to donate towards our fun Valentine's Day centers.

Continue to work on your community service projects. These will be due at the end of May. Please see our Community Service Tab for more information and feel free to email me if you have any questions.

This week we are reading books about Valentines Day and we will start learning and reading about Presidents Day.

Writing:  We will continue practicing writing a Step Up to Writing paragraph with a topic sentence, three things about that topic, and a conclusion sentence.

This week, we will focus on Ways to Make Five and Ten (addition and subtraction), decomposing and composing numbers, and base ten place value. Discuss "Ways to Make Five and Ten" with your child through addition and subtraction number sentences and story problems. For example, "We need five books, but we only have three. How many more do we need?" or "10-__=4. What would go in the blank? How did you figure that out?"

Leadership: SELF-CONTROL.
