Weekly News: February 13-17

I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing three-day weekend with your families. We have ANOTHER three-day weekend coming up this week, as there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 20th.

Our Valentines Day centers will be Tuesday from 10:30-11:30. Thank you to the parents that have signed up to donate items and volunteer. I am looking forward to celebrating Valentine's Day together.

Report cards and conferences are coming up and I will begin my assessments this week. We will NOT be asking students to stay after school for assessment week this trimester. Please continue to work with your child on ALL skills. Our second round of parent conferences will be after spring break. I am looking forward to meeting with all of you again soon and discussing your child's growth from the past few months!

Spring break is coming up! We will have two weeks off - March 5th through March 15th.

Community Service Project: Every student at Inland Leaders is required to participate in a Community Service Project of his or her choosing. The requirement for kindergarten students consists of 6 hours of service. Projects in the past have included: collecting food and clothing for homeless shelters, collecting and donating to various organizations and charities, volunteering at senior citizen homes, animal shelters, and the humane society. Each child is then required to present their project in class. Presentations in the past have included: posterboards, journals, slideshows, books, and pictures documenting the project from start to finish. This is a great way to serve the community as a family. Completed projects will be due and presentations will take place at the end of our school year, but we wanted to tell you about it now so you have time to start thinking about what you would like to do.

What Are We Learning This Week??:

Sight Words: ANY MANY BUT WERE.

Letter Team: Review ALL letter teams this week! We only have a few letter teams left to learn, so make sure you know all of them!

Reading: This week, we will read books about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, and read our poem of the week - "President's Day".

Writing: We will dive into a new writing program this week called "Step Up To Writing".
Kindergarten SUTW is writing in a paragraph format with a topic sentence, three sentences about that topic, and a conclusion sentence. For example, "I know three things about George Washington. First, George Washington was our first president. Next, he is known as the father of our country. Last, George Washington was a great leader. As you can see, I know a lot about George Washington."

Math: Students will continue working on worksheets at their level. Please continue to work on circled problems that students are missing and reinforcing these concepts at home. Practice your math facts everyday for our  Tuesday and Friday Timed Tests!

Leadership:
THOUGHTFULNESS.
